CHOOSING TEAMS
Yesterday
like every yesterday this month
I put my life in little boxes,
hoping the recruiter would pick me
instead of the eleven other strangers
leering at me
willing me to go away
and not come back.
Instead I put my life in little boxes
and handed the paper back
to the recruiter,
my eyes pleading with him
“Pick me, pick me.”
As if I were at recess back in grade school.
