Snow Geese

Poem Posted March 23, 2007 by James E. Nelson

We have lots of Canada Gesse (everyone has lots of Canada Geese!) but the snow geese rarely stop in this area. They just fly overhead, north in the spring and south in the fall. The high pitched honking is so mournful it leaves a bit of chill in the soul after they have disappeared.

SNOW GEESE

The snow geese clattered northward
wings sparkling in the wind.
Passing here for colder climes
they left the infant spring to fend
off remnant snows banks by herself
and left us silent, contemplating,
contemplating winter's end.
