This is the psalm the High Priest quoted when sacrificing the Lamb on the Day of Atonement. It has therefore become the classic psalm for Good Friday. This is why we call Good Friday "good:" Because it is the Day the Lord hath made. Circumstances were such that I ended up recording this song on Good Friday, although the coincidence was unintentional. THIS IS THE DAY THE LORD HATH MADE Psalm 118 - Isaac Watts, 1719, alt. Nun Danket All (CM), Johann Cruger, 1647 This is the day the Lord hath made; The hours are all God's own; Let heaven rejoice, let earth be glad, And praise surround the throne. Hosanna to the annointed King, To David's holy Son! Help us, O Lord, descend and bring Salvation from the throne. Blest be the Lord, who comes in power With messages of grace, Who comes in this accepted hour To save our sinful race. Hosanna in the highest strains The church on earth can raise! The highest heavens in which God reigns Shall now resound with praise.
